Since leaving academia in 2018, I have worked as an independent writer and researcher. I write about a variety of topics but am most interested in coffee, travel, and culture with a focus on gender equity. This interest began in my PhD program where my research focused on girls’ education in India and Cambodia. As a qualitative researcher, I’ve spent considerable time in the field, and this informs my work as a writer. I’ve been trained to observe and ask questions so that I can tell provoking stories. I am especially interested in how people make sense of their lived experiences.
My work has appeared in a variety of publications, and I’m the travel editor at St. Louis Magazine. I write for Daily Coffee News, Barista Magazine, and Standart.
I am currently writing a book about women in coffee, a project I started in 2022. To date, I have interviewed 58 people from around the world. I’ve picked coffee in Guatemala, cupped in Rwanda, visited farms in Colombia, and delivered the keynote address at the IWCA Leadership Summit in Ethiopia.
After nearly three years living in Mexico City, I’m in the process of moving to Paris. If I’m not writing at a coffee shop, you can probably find me at an art gallery, running, studying Spanish or French verb conjugations, or traveling someplace new.
